The Eastern Trail Half Marathon & 5k is a brand new event in 2018. For a few years we’ve been working on starting an event on the pathway, and now it’s finally a reality.
As long time runners, and users of the trail, we wanted to encourage other runners to get out and enjoy this resource right in our own backyard. We also wanted to find a way to help the trail “Bridge the Gap”, and thus, the half marathon and 5k was born.
What’s the Trail Like?
The course is extremely flat and well groomed, and promises to be one of the fastest half marathons around. Without a doubt, this will be the fastest long distance off-road course you’ll ever run. The race starts at the Kennebunk Middle School, and you’ll travel all the way to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, and back. If you haven’t had a chance to get out and run the trail already, you’re in for a surprise. You might even set your PR for the 1/2 or 5. There are only a couple of turns required at the start, finish, and half way point. Other than that, you’re looking at a long straight course.
What’s it For?
We try extremely hard to make sure all of our events benefit the local community as much as possible. So, $5.00 from every single entry fee goes directly to the ETA in order to help maintain, and grow the trail – plus a portion of the overall proceeds. The goal of “Bridging the Gap” is to be able to connect the trail all the way from Kennebunk to Bug Light in South Portland completely on trails.
